No words...

I am horrified.

EDIT: Gene Stone, of Huffington Post, does have some words.

Here's a word from me: Criminy!

I was going to post this yesterday, but I ran out of time. And forgot.

Yeah, pretty scary, huh?

The father says it was because he feared the son was gay.

But do you want to believe an abuser? Abusers lie.

If you believe the father, the father is unusually anti-gay.

If you think he's probably lying, then he's unusually abusive, and only anti-gay enough to come up with "I thought he might be gay" when pressed for an excuse.

I have no problem believing he's lying. I also believe that we have to look at the full picture: the guy's a nutjob. Obviously. After all, this is a three year old. The kid's not going to be demonstrating any sexuality, period.

However, ideas are powerful. The mother says that man had boxed with the kid before because he thought he was gay (we can assume he was "trying to tough him up). And we can't ignore that the current administration is vehemently anti-gay. So in a society where the leader is so hateful to continually bring up the problems with gay and we have an incident like this, it's clear there's some connection. And the only thing we can draw is that this is a sick world.

I think there's more to the story than the "father thought the kid was gay." But to dismiss this story outright, to claim there was no hate involved? I think that's a whole lot more dangerous.

I can believe, in this country at this time in this climate, that a man would kill his 3-year old for fear he was gay, but I just can't believe anyone would bother with this excuse. What an utter lack of creativity, and an utter waste of space.

Whatever happened to good old-fashioned insanity?

I dunno -- we've had the Twinkie defense for a good long time now...
